Whittengale, situated atop West Hill in Barre, Vermont, is a family owned and operated farm, seeking to provide our community with delicious, robust, and high-quality meats. Embracing the values of efficiency and sustainability, we raise pigs, cattle, sheep, and poultry off the land, supplementing when necessary with recycled feeds from local businesses. We hope to use our animals to both nourish our neighborhood and revitalize the land they call home.

WHERE ARE WE?
Whittengale is located about 4 miles off I-89 exit 6 at the convergence of Upper and Lower Usle Roads in Barre. Lower Usle Road is the first left off Miller Road which crosses VT-63 two miles East of I-89.
PIGS
Reducing waste and prioritizing sustainability plays a key role in Whittengale’s success. Daily chores involve feeding our carefully selected pigs waste milk, recycled barley, and reclaimed farm-fresh cheeses.
CATTLE
Our herd is composed of primarily lowline angus cattle, a breed which originated in Australia in the mid 1900s. Their small size allows them to be more efficient, producing incredible, marbled meat off well-managed and marginal pastures, alike.
POULTRY
We are proud to raise a variety of poultry including meat and various laying hens, ducks, geese, and pigeons. Each fall we rear turkeys for your Thanksgiving feast. Our poultry meat is free-range and thrives off excess recycled feed from full-fat yogurt to artisan cheese.
SHEEP
Optimizing the health of both our soils and animals, we have recently added sheep to our grazing system. These small ruminants complement the cattle well, helping to defend against the natural cycle of parasites. A mix of Katahdins and Dorsets, we hope to lamb twice every three years.
